Pre-treatment Visits

Initial Visit
At the first visit to Mitchell and Bartlett Orthodontics, an initial visual examination will be performed. If treatment is indicated, a more thorough diagnostic evaluation will be needed to determine the best course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records typically include a medical/dental history, clinical examination, digital models of the teeth, photos of the patient's face and teeth, and X-rays. This information is used to plan a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.

Consultation
After the doctors have analyzed your records, they will discuss your specific treatment plan to address your orthodontics needs, set up necessary appointments to start your treatment, and clarify financial arrangements for you.

Active-treatment Visits

Delivery Appointment
On the day that your braces (or other appliances) are delivered, your appointment will typically take between one and two hours. Instructions for caring for your appliances will be reviewed, and we will schedule an important follow-up appointment 2 weeks following the delivery to make sure you are adapting well to your new braces.

Regular Successive Appointments
You will then see us for adjustments at regular intervals, 6 to 12 weeks apart, depending on your specific treatment plan. These appointments often take between 20 to 40 minutes. During this time, you will need to keep appointments, follow instructions, eat nutritiously, and practice excellent brushing and flossing. Continue to see your dentist regularly to ensure that your teeth and gums remain healthy.

Retention Visits

Once your braces (or other appliances) are removed, retainers are fabricated to hold your teeth in their new positions until your bone, gums, and muscles adapt to the new tooth positions. The retention period is an important part of your overall treatment and should not be neglected.

Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. Cancel only if it is an emergency. It is difficult to reschedule you since most appointments are made many weeks in advance.
