| The
anchorage system has emerged as one of the most important
advances in orthodontics.
This safe and effective treatment uses mini-screws that
are inserted into the upper or lower jaw. Their exact
location is determined by the orthodontist and will depend
on the type of tooth movement needed. There is minimal
or no discomfort during the procedure and after the device
has been placed. The anchorage device sits entirely inside
the mouth and usually is not visible.
Once placed, the mini-screws give Dr. Mitchell & Dr. Bartlett unprecedented
control over tooth movement because they provide a stable
"anchor" to push or pull against. The use of
this technology may eliminate the need for more extensive
surgical procedures to remove teeth or reposition the
jaws. It can also take the place of orthodontic appliances
- like headgear.
